Ed Haslam's investigation into the unsolved 1964 murder of a cancer researcher led first to his self-published missile Mary, Ferrie & the Monkey Virus: The Story of an Underground Medical Laboratory, which became an underground classic in the 1990s.
He then revised and expanded that book into Dr. Mary's Monkey - How the Unsolved Murder of a Doctor, a Secret Laboratory in New Orleans and Cancer-Causing Monkey Viruses are Linked to Lee Harvey Oswald, the JFK Assassination and Emerging Global Epidemics, published by TrineDay in Oregon. Dr. Mary's Monkey presents a live witness to this biological weapon project in New Orleans in the summer preceding JFK's assassination ... a project hoping to kill Fidel Castro ... one involving Lee Harvey Oswald.
Haslam will discuss his new book on [day], [date] from [starttime] to [endtime]. at [place] via live 2-way audio link. The event is free and all are invited.
Haslam attended high school in New Orleans in the late-1960s. The background event of these years was Jim Garrison's investigation into the JFK assassination. Haslam had teachers, classmates and friends whose family members were involved in the JFK case in one way or another. This experience gave him an "insider perspective" on those events. Coincidentally, Haslam’s father, a professor at Tulane Medical School, had been a colleague of the murdered cancer researcher, giving Haslam yet another window into these events. Shortly before his death in 1971, Haslam’s father warned him about the dangers of investigating that murder and the related secret operations in New Orleans because doing so would cross swords with some of the most powerful people in our country. Haslam took his father’s advice seriously and was quiet for many years.
As the 1990s approached, Haslam's advertising career took him to Detroit, where he managed advertising campaigns for Chrysler and Rockwell International. In his final days in Detroit, as the AIDS epidemic fixed itself upon the media landscape, Haslam started questioning what he had seen and heard in New Orleans. He began work on what would become Mary, Ferrie & the Monkey Virus: The Story of an Underground Medical Laboratory - one of the first works to publicly vet the contamination of the polio vaccines on the 1950s. This same public health disaster was later documented by the book The Virus and the Vaccine The True Story of a Cancer-Causing Monkey Virus, Contaminated Polio Vaccine, and the Millions of Americans Exposed by Debbie Bookchin and Jim Schumacher (St. Martin's Press, 2004), confirming Haslam’s “wild claim” that hundreds of millions of people worldwide, including virtually all of the baby boomers here in the U.S., had been exposed to cancer-causing viruses through the far-reaching polio vaccination program of the 1950s and early-1960s. But what makes Dr. Mary’s Monkey so intriguing is that in the presentation of new evidence confirming the existence of the bio-weapon project suspected in his first book, Haslam shatters the "cover" story of President Kennedy's assassination in the process.
Deftly unveiling the story of Lee Harvey Oswald's sojourn in New Orleans in the summer of 1963, Haslam strips away the "lone-nut" façade by supplying factual information that provides new insights into the people and forces surrounding Oswald that historic summer. Haslam's book eclipses both the recent rash of "lone nut" books which attempt to debunk a variety of conspiracy theories and even many of the established conspiracy theories themselves by presenting a powerful new perspective... that Lee Harvey Oswald was deeply involved in an ultra-secret plot to assassinate Communist dictator Fidel Castro with a biological weapon and participated in its development in an underground medical laboratory in New Orleans in 1963.
In Haslam's words, "You can't really understand why they framed Oswald, until you understand his connection to the biological weapon... and when you do, you'll realize why they did and see that there are bigger things for us to worry about... like where are those mutated monkey viruses today?"
